Wild Geese

You do not have to be good.

You do not have to walk on your knees

for a hundred miles through the desert，repenting.

You only have to let the soft animal of your body

love what it loves.

Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you 

mine.

Meanwhile the world goes on.

Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the 

rain

are moving across the landscapes,

over the prairies and the deep trees,

the mountains and the rivers.

Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue 

air,

are heading home again.

Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,

the world offers itself to your imagination,

calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting

over and over announcing your place

in the family of things.

【作者简介】

Mary Oliver： 1935年9月10日生于美国俄亥俄州，13岁开始写诗，1962年玛丽前往伦敦，任职于移动影院有限公司和莎士比亚剧场。回到美国，定居普林斯顿。她的诗歌赢得了多项奖项，其中包括国家图书奖和普利策诗歌奖（1984年）。主要诗集有：《夜晚的旅行者》（The Night Traveler，1978），《美国原貌》（American Primitive， 1983），《灯光的屋宇》（House of Light，1990），《新诗选》（New and Selected Poems，1992），《白松：诗和散文诗》（White Pine: Poems and Prose Poems，1994）等。

【译者简介】

倪志娟，女，1970出生，湖北天门人，哲学博士，杭州电子科技大学人文与法学院教授。诗人，诗歌翻译家，主要从事哲学与文化，女性诗学研究以及诗歌创作与翻译，近年来出版学术专著《女性主义知识考古学》（北京：高教出版社，2012），先后在《人民文学》《世界文学》《诗刊》《诗探索》等杂志发表诗歌作品与诗歌译作，在《绿风》诗刊开设三年诗歌翻译专栏。出版诗集《猎·物》（2016，北岳文艺出版社），翻译了多位英美现代诗人作品。
