暮景斜芳殿，年华丽绮宫。

寒辞去冬雪，暖带入春风。

阶馥舒梅素，盘花卷烛红。

共欢新故岁，迎送一宵中。

1.New Year’s Eve

Gently embraced by the light sunset glow,

The palace is put on a magnificent show;

Cold is retreating with the winter snow,

Warmth is felt when the spring winds blow.

Along the steps waves of the plum scent flow,

Flower-like red candles cluster row by row;

Cheers and yells urge the last minutes to go,

Feeling of a fresh start begins to grow.

2.See the Old Year Out

In the oblique rays of the setting sun, 

the time-honored palace glows. 

Snow melts as winter recedes,

and balmy breeze blows. 

In the air the delicate fragrance of plum blossoms wafts,

on the table flowerlike red candles never burn out.  

All make merry and stay up late, 

to see the new year in and the old year out.

3.Stay Up All Night

By the setting sun the gorgeous palace is gilded,

With the passage of time, it becomes more splendid.

As the weather gets warmer, winter snow begins to melt,

And it seems that a whiff of spring breeze I’ve felt.

The wintersweet blossoms at the altar smell so nice.

Sacrificial offerings around the red candles catch my eyes.

To celebrate the alternation of old and new year,

All the people stay up all night with joy and cheer.

4.New Year’s Eve

The halls are splendid in the sunset glow;

The palace, blessed by time, more gorgeous grows.

We see cold days depart with winter snow;

Warm air prevails now as the spring breeze blows.

The steps are fragrant with plum flowers white,

Ablaze, red candles like bouquets appear.

Let us farewell the passing year tonight

And celebrate the coming of new year!

唐太宗李世民，是唐朝第二位皇帝，汉族，陇西成纪人，祖籍赵郡隆庆(今邢台市隆尧县)，政治家、军事家、书法家、诗人。他是中国史上最出名的政治家与明君之一。唐太宗开创了历史上的“贞观之治”。他为后来全盛的开元盛世奠定了重要的基础，将中国传统农业社会推向鼎盛时期。
