修鞋匠的铺面，还活在半个世纪以前

年老的墙面生出大朵的霉斑

隔壁王阿姨的衣橱怀揣着潮湿的心

等待着被晾晒

雨天雨地中，猛然想起借伞给我的男人

不要在湿漉漉的天气里想我

不要再随随便便为人撑伞

能够遮风挡雨的工具，往往也能让人不见天日

1. Plum Rain in Shanghai

The rain that once washed Chang’an crosses time and space to the Shanghai Bund.

Ever since, Changle Road has been weeping—

a flood of tears streaking all things, a sight to rend the heart.

The cobbler’s shop persists, half a century behind,

its aged wall sprouting a large bloom of mold.

Next door, Auntie Wang’s wardrobe harbors a sodden heart,

yearning to be aired out.

In this rain-drenched world, I suddenly recall lending my man the umbrella.

Don’t think of me in soggy weather;

don’t hold your umbrella for anyone.

What fends off wind and rain can also veil the sky.

2. 对比色

雨再大，泪水也是热的

天再冷，良心也是暖的

去东北吧，说走就走

极寒的世界里，看一看被雪修改的人间

2. Contrasting Colors

No matter how heavy the rain, tears stay warm;

no matter how bitter the cold, conscience stays kindled.

Let’s go to the Northeast—just go, without delay.

In the world of frost, witness the earth remade by snow.

3. 做个有情人

一场雪，将世界刷成童话的模样

一场雪，把沙漠变成了雪原

感谢雪，让童话照进现实

感谢雪，为塔克拉玛干披上白纱

而今，春已归

做个有情人吧，梦幻雪融后

世界还是原来的世界

我还是我。从未改变

3. Being a Person of Love

A snowfall transforms the world into a fairy tale;

a snowfall turns the desert into a snowy plain.

Thank you, snow, for bringing the fairy tale into reality;

thank you, snow, for draping the Taklamakan in a white veil.

Now, here is spring again.

Be a person of love. After the dreamy snow melts,

the world remains as it was,

and I am still me—never changed.

石库门的玉兰树，微笑着

端起了酒盏

她用盛开的雪，替代

冷落过你的雪

春雨夜阑，浸润江南

旧巷的吴侬蜜语

霞飞路的风啊，唱腔幽怨

拂动着旗袍女人的裙裾

4. I Am in Shanghai, Waiting for You

The Shikumen’s magnolia tree

raises a wine cup, smiling.

She offers blooming snow to replace

the snow that once chilled you.

The spring night rain dwindles, moisturizing

the southern sweet Wu Nong dialect in the old alley.

The breeze from Xiabei Avenue carries a sorrowful tone,

brushing the cheongsam of a woman.

Brother, when you come, we will watch the flowers side by side,

gaze at each other in silence.

The clouds above know all the secrets.

5. 相见欢

一定有什么难以割舍

落日才一遍又一遍徒劳地投进地平线

一定有什么无法说出口

人们才用千里之外的寒暄，独自搂紧双肩

世间道途纵横，总有些路曾经平行。然后交错

总有些路曾经交错。终将平行

习惯用欢乐掩饰悲伤的人

往往也习惯用废墟掩埋过往

5. Joy of Reunion

There must be something hard to let go of—

why else would the setting sun plunge into the horizon, again and again, in vain?

There must be something hard to say aloud—

why else would people exchange pleasantries while hugging their own shoulders tightly?

The world’s paths stretch far and wide;

some roads once ran parallel, then crossed.

Some roads once crossed, only to run parallel again in the end.

Those accustomed to masking sorrow with joy

often bury the past beneath ruins.

6. 玫瑰

床头摆放着一瓶枯萎的玫瑰

那是一个晨光中，我怀着欢喜心

抱回的。三个月过去了

从含苞到盛放，直至枯萎

变成永恒的干花

很幸运，我们一起见证了

她全部的美丽过程

6. The Roses

On the bedside sits a vase of withered roses,

brought home joyfully one radiant morning.

Three months have passed—

from bud to full bloom, then to withering,

now preserved as eternally dried flowers.

How fortunate we are, to have witnessed together

the complete journey of her beauty.

7. 别样清晨

容易令人产生孤独的错觉

要避开。醉酒后，神智不清的午夜

也是

阳光掀开窗帘。唤醒沉睡的卧床

光束惺忪，舞动无法言说之美

鸟鸣和车流声。在枝条间。荡漾

朦胧中，我们久久对视

一寸一寸点燃。残馀的青葱

萌发。新鲜锋锐。有着破土之势

从来没有像这样，期待一个人

无声的唇，一寸一寸拨亮心音

汗水和体温漫溢。交融。我爱

空气中，这时刻决堤的危险

她如此迷离。恍惚。仿佛

我们从不曾知道——什么是爱情

7. An Unusual Morning

The illusion that easily conjures loneliness

should be avoided. So too, the muddled, drunken

midnight.

Sunlight lifts the curtains, awakening the slumbering bed.

The drowsy beams dance with an unspeakable beauty.

Birdsong and the hum of traffic sway among the branches.

In the haze, we gaze at each other, lingering,

kindling, inch by inch, the remnants of youth—

sprouting, fresh and sharp, ready to break through the soil.

Never before have I yearned for someone like this.

Silent lips, inch by inch, brighten the heart’s melody.

Sweat and body warmth overflow, merging. I love

the imminent danger of this moment, breaching in the air.

She is so elusive, so dazed, as if

we never knew—what love is.

8. 礼物

接女儿放学回家的路上

天空刚刚建好云朵博物馆

有些云，乖巧懂事。变成猪、马、牛、羊

被甩着响鞭的放牧人，赶进牲口棚

最洁净的，被摘棉桃的姑娘运回新疆

多愁善感者，偷听过太多凡尘秘密

青云爱美，将天空一角裁成长衫，穿在身上

也有个别抑郁成疾者，念念不忘暴雨中的撑伞人

至尊宝捧出月光宝盒，大喊。一万年的咒语

落日余晖中，最大的蛋糕，是你

送的礼物。直到我走进家门，还迟迟

不肯散去。等月亮，取出餐刀

等星星，点燃蜡烛

等你，唱起生日快乐歌

8. Gift

On the way home from picking up my daughter from school,

the sky had just finished building its museum of clouds.

Some clouds, well-behaved and sensible, turned into pigs, horses, cows, and sheep,

driven by the crackling whip of a herdsman into the livestock shed.

The purest ones were carried back to Xinjiang by the cotton-picking girls.

The sentimental ones eavesdropped on too many earthly secrets;

the green ones loved beauty and cut a corner of the sky into a long robe to wear.

The few depressed ones couldn’t forget the umbrella holders in the storm.

The Supreme Treasure held out the Moonlight Box, shouting the ten-thousand-year incantation.

In the afterglow of the sunset, the largest cake was the gift

you gave. It lingered, even as I walked through the door,

unwilling to disperse—waiting for the moon to take out the dining knife,

waiting for the stars to light the candles,

and waiting for you to sing the birthday song.

Fang Fei

Official named Liu Mingzhu, from Benxi, Liaoning, of Manchu descent, now residing in Shanghai. A woman married to poetry. She is the president of the Shanghai Fang Fei Poetry Society, the editor-in-chief of the poetry journal Poetry World, one of the founders of the Fang Fei Poetry and Music Ensemble, and has published her personal poetry collection Endless Fang Fei.
