起伏绵延

从大西洋彼岸

连向故土山川

连向红河

连向哈呢梯田

连向米线的故乡

蒙自

——滇南最远的边沿

一缕缕米线

系着中华儿女的心

魂牵梦萦

Crossing-the-Bridge Rice Noodles

On the noon of September 19, 2025, Ms. Zhang Ci, a Chinese-American writer, led twenty-eight writers from home and abroad to visit her hometown Mengzi, where we tasted authentic Crossing-the-Bridge Rice Noodles. Moved by the experience, I wrote this.

No bridge is needed

yet there are threads—

strands of long rice noodles

like the Twenty-Four Turns,

winding and curving,

rising and falling, stretching afar

from the other shore of the Atlantic

connecting to the native land’s mountains and rivers,

connecting to the Red River,

connecting to the Hani Terraces,

connecting to the homeland of rice noodles

Mengzi,

the southernmost edge of Yunnan.

Strands of rice noodles

tie together the hearts of Chinese sons and daughters,

an haunting dreamlike attachment—

that is my deep longing for you.
