Love Between Steel Sparks and Sunset Glow
By Hometown Soil Affection
Epigraph
Steel sparks brand the fiery passion of bygone years,
Sunset glow paves the gentle companionship of the remaining life.
Two hearts spanning time and tide,
Let love be an unquenchable light in the river of time.
At the moment the video call connects,
Warmth melts like maltose sweet,
The scorching sweetness surges through veins,
Dispelling all the sand of weariness.
Sister Chunyan, your bright smile,
Is the morning light, is the spring water,
Stirring up the most magnificent waves of love.
Looking back on the years at Shuicheng Iron and Steel Factory,
The furnace fire shone on her, born in the Year of the Pig—Zhang Feinaqu.
With crescent eyes and a navy blue work uniform,
Her cuffs curled up like the glow of mortal life.
Two fruit candies, one stuffed into my hand,
Its crisp sweetness relieving fatigue.
The spiciness of lamb rice noodles in the cafeteria,
She poured most of the chili oil into my bowl.
Beneath the setting sun, steel sparks splashed like golden-red veils,
She leaned gently on my shoulder, whispering her cares:
"If only we could stay like this forever."
The wind of fate tore the veil of distance apart,
A steel bead, polished until shiny bright,
"Like our love, hard on the outside, once burning hot within."
Regret lingers, yet has faded into a scar of relief.
Those days are treasures of time,
Warm enough to burn, sprouting in memory.
Wandering through twists and turns, fate blooms again,
Meeting you, also born in the Year of the Pig, Sister Chunyan.
I, with frost-kissed sideburns, encounter her in her prime.
Twenty-two springs and autumns cannot separate our longing.
Others' gossip is but fleeting dust,
All I care about is whether your smile remains as bright as flowers.
The tender call of "Brother" and the daily "Third Brother",
Are the warmest love words in my heart.
I want to wrap all the twilight of my remaining life into your hair,
Bring a bunch of flowers blooming year-round, fold them into a handkerchief of time.
Choose a small courtyard by the river and beside the slope, where sunsets paint the sky.
I hold your hand, sitting at the foot of the slope,
My rough palm caressing the delicate longing,
The evening breeze blows, strands of hair brushing your neck with a tickle,
Sweetening the years, intoxicating the time.
You point to the sunset glow in the sky, smiling as you recall the struggles of the past:
"Third Brother, this scenery is just like the longing we had back then."
I brush the hair from your forehead, my fingertips gently touching your ear:
"No matter how beautiful the sunset glow is, it cannot match the light of your smiling eyes."
The setting sun stretches the embracing figures long,
The mark of age melts away in love's warmth.
Steel sparks burned the heat of old dreams,
Sunset glow illuminates the length of the remaining life.
Love is the gentlest answer of time,
Until the earth and sky crumble, until the seas dry up and rocks decay,
We shall hold fast to our original aspiration, and our tender affection shall linger on.
