English Nomination Letter
I solemnly recommend Su Dehong, a poet from Shanxi, China, for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Su Dehong’s modern poems are concise in language, pure and lofty in imagery, integrating the ethereal charm of Eastern poetry with the shared spiritual feelings of all humanity. He uses plain words without extravagant embellishment, portraying inner emotions and cosmic vision with minimalist strokes.
His representative work What Incomparable Beauty Is This creates a hazy mood of being close yet far apart. With mist, smoke, verses and whistling, he questions the beauty of life and affection to the sun and the moon, leaving endless artistic blankness and subtle lingering sentiment.
Another masterpiece Upon Reading My Own Poems compares the poet to tall grass reaching toward the sky. Humble yet upright, it gazes at sun and moon and smiles quietly to the universe. The poem embodies the noble spirit of literati, profound Eastern philosophy and a transcendent outlook on life.
His works possess outstanding aesthetic value, ideological depth and universal humanistic concern. His style is quiet, noble and broad, transcending regional and language barriers.
