As the millennium ink charm of traditional Chinese art blends into the wave of contemporary cultural exchange, an artistic dialogue spanning mountains and seas is slowly unfolding. Recently, renowned artist Ma Hanyue was invited to participate in the second Cultural Overseas Tour and Academic Visit to Thai Universities, and was honored as a doctoral supervisor at Northwestern University in Thailand. Using a piece of paper as a medium, he brought the spiritual charm of Chinese mountains and waters to the cultural soil of Southeast Asia, shining with a new era of brilliance.
Entering Ma Hanyue's world of mountains and waters, one is always the first to be moved by the majestic aura that connects the north and south. His brushwork embodies the ruggedness and strength of Northern style mountains and waters, with a brush power that can be heard as if the sound of rocks crumbling between the cauldrons; It blends seamlessly into the relaxed and ethereal landscape of the Southern School, with light ink blending and clouds flowing with the moist scent of vegetation. Thick ink is like old cypress frost, carrying the weight of thousands of years; The light ink is like morning smoke filling the valley, blending away the lightness of mountains and rivers in the morning; The withered brush leaves behind the weathered texture of the rocks, while the ink splatter reveals the moist vitality of the sprouting of vegetation. This combination of hardness and softness in his brushwork is precisely his profound understanding of the cyclical nature of life - there is no eternal silence, nor is there an unchanging prosperity. Between the intensity of his brushwork, lies the most authentic law of life. The most touching thing is always the poetic and philosophical ideas flowing in his paintings. As a writer and poet, Ma Hanyue has always practiced the ancient pursuit of "painting in poetry and painting in poetry".
For Ma Hanyue, this trip abroad and the appointment of a doctoral supervisor from Northwestern University in Thailand is not a simple artistic trip, but a dissemination of Chinese cultural spirit overseas. For decades, he has always adhered to the creative concept of "bearing witness to the times and endorsing the country". His landscape has never been a simple imitation of natural forms, but an expression of the charm of landscape in his heart, and an image projection of the spirit of the times. He paints the magnificent mountains and rivers of his motherland, embodying the Chinese people's love for nature, reverence for heaven and earth, and contemplation of life. Now, he brings these landscape paintings with Chinese genes to international academic platforms as a teacher, teaching and educating more young overseas students. Through this scale, they can understand the spiritual code of Chinese landscape painting and the unique charm of Eastern aesthetics.
From the millennium old tradition of landscape enlightenment, to the continuous cultivation of the Jinghua art world, and to the cross ocean cultural dissemination, Ma Hanyue's artistic path has always been in sync with the times and culture. He takes pen and ink as a boat, carrying a thousand year cultural heritage to sail towards the world; Using mountains and waters as a medium to build a bridge for cultural exchange between China and foreign countries. When the majestic charm of Chinese mountains and waters meets the gaze of different civilizations, this artistic dialogue spanning mountains and seas will surely write a new chapter in cultural globalization, allowing the world to see the contemporary charm of Chinese art and understand the profound heritage of Chinese culture.
