1. Just Arrived in This World
By Bei Mei Shi Ge
Morning light
had only just slipped through the window
when a tiny new life
arrived in this world
carried on the sound of her first cry.
So small,
yet so precious.
She cannot yet hold the world in her hands,
and yet she has already captured
the hearts of so many.

From this day on,
someone will wake in the middle of the night
again and again
to make sure she is breathing.
Someone will suddenly grow gentler,
even their words
slowing down.
The years
that had already grown old
seem, because of her arrival,
to bloom once more
into spring.

She will grow little by little—
her first smile,Many years from now,
when she looks back on this day,
she may find that certain parts of the world
quietly changed
the moment her cry touched the air.

May her life be bright.
May her heart always carry its own light.Today,
the sunlight beyond the window rests in silence.
The world seems to have just learned how to breathe.
Spring
is beginning.

2. A Message for Xixi
By Bei Mei Shi Ge
Xixi, you are the gentlest light of the morning dawn,
softly falling upon the world,
warming every heart you touch.
Within your name flows a river of wisdom—Haley,
quiet and graceful,
bringing brightness and peace wherever it goes.
In your eyes, the world is filled with light;
in your smile, the dawn itself sings with joy.
May you be like the morning glow—
gentle, yet steadfast;
with your tiny steps,
may you light your own path
and bring warmth to everyone
fortunate enough to meet you.

3. Anchorage
by Bei Mei Shi Ge
Nearly forty-eight hours
pain arrives, wave after wave
like tide pushing tide
like night passing through deeper night
and she never once let go
through the moment of life
At last
a cry splits the silence
a small figure
carrying a star-like, moist light
arrives in this world
In this moment
the mother, exhausted, closes her eyes
her forehead still marked
by the passage of a storm
and the daughter rests quietly on her chest
like a small boat just returned from a long voyage
slowly anchoring in a tender harbor
She does not yet know
what kind of waves her mother crossed
to reach this place
what reefs
what endless nights
But the body remembers
the heartbeat remembers
the ancient river deep in the blood remembers
From this moment on
she will grow along her mother’s gaze
run along her mother’s love

And the mother too
because of this small life
will learn the world anew
Outside the window, morning light is rising
illuminating their intertwined outlines
one just arrived into the world
one just became a mother
They lean into each other
like shore and boat
like moon and tide
like the most tender
anchorage ever written by fate

4. The New Father’s Quiet Ecstasy
by Bei Mei Shi Ge
He holds his newborn daughter
as if holding a stretch of morning light
still unbroken
still warm with the night’s fading breath
His eyes gently close
as though returning the world
to silence for a moment
In this instant
there is no need for confirmation
no need for words
only the rise and fall of his chest
slowly learning a new rhythm
She is so light
as light as a fallen leaf
yet so real
he dares not move
A small green cap
rests against his heartbeat
like a quiet piece of spring
Skin against skin
breath against breath
two lives in near-perfect closeness
sharing the same stillness
He does not look toward the distance
the distance has been softly folded away
and placed deep within his chest
That unformed question
“Is this my daughter?”
is never spoken
only gently sinks into his heart
like a drop of water
falling into deeper water
And time
does not stop in this moment
it only learns
to slow its steps
He suddenly realizes
the future is growing slowly
in his arms
She will grow up
she will roll over for the first time, take her first steps
and one day speak a voice both strange and familiar
calling him “Dad”
These moments not yet lived
already appear so clear
like light that already exists
He holds her a little more lightly
not because she is less precious
but because he is beginning to understand
the weight of what is precious
A father is not an assigned identity
but someone who, in countless small moments
learns tenderness again and again
learning, in the lightest of weights
how not to disturb a miracle

5. Xixi’s First Children’s Day
By Bei Mei Shi Ge
Little Xixi,
you arrived with a bright, clear cry
into this imperfect world
that is still worth loving.
You do not yet know the seasons,
nor the passing of years,
nor what it means
to meet and to part.
You only know
how to gently close your tiny hands
into the shape of a flower.
The calendar turns a new page.
June arrives.
A festival for children begins.
And you—
you happen to arrive
at your very first Children’s Day,
as if the whole world
is celebrating your coming.
The wind stirs the leaves,
birds rehearse their songs,
sunlight scatters golden candies
drop by drop upon the earth.
You cannot yet speak,
cannot run,
cannot sing,
and still cannot tell
day from night.
Yet all blessings
are already rushing toward you.
May you grow up
with light forever in your eyes,
and love forever in your heart.
May you rejoice at blooming flowers,
and learn to cherish falling leaves.
May you keep a child’s innocence,
and also the courage
to face the world.
May you pass through storms
without losing your tenderness,
walk through the long years
and still believe in beauty.
Today,
you sleep quietly in your mother’s arms,
like a small boat
just setting sail,
while the vast sea of the future
slowly unfolds before you.
Little Xixi,
this is your first Children’s Day—
and the first gift
life has given us.

6. She Suddenly Smiled
— By Bei Mei Shi Ge
She suddenly smiled
like a June morning
a small flower still holding dew
in the first light of dawn
quietly opening itself
No sound was made
yet the whole room lit up
in that moment
time seemed to slow
Outside the window,
tree shadows stopped swaying
even the clock seemed to pause its steps
all fatigue, waiting, and longing
began to melt
in the soft curve of her smile
She smiled quietly
as if in a dream
being gently held by an angel
And we, the adults
worn smooth by time
because of that single smile
suddenly believed again—
that life
can truly be
this pure
that being alive
can still become soft again
because of the arrival
of another small life
She cannot yet speak
but with one smile
she has already answered
all forms of love
Years later
when she grows up
and walks into the crowd
perhaps she will still remember
that early summer afternoon
when she lay in someone’s arms
carrying the scent of milk
and the warmth of morning light
and suddenly
she smiled
and so
the whole world
became gentle with her

7. “Father Feeding the Baby”
By Bei Mei Shi Ge
The light is soft
The room is very quiet
Only the milky white
flowing slowly inside the bottle
and the tiny sound
of a baby swallowing
The young father lowers his head
His movements awkward
yet deeply careful
He holds the child in his arms
as if holding
a gift
newly arrived in this world
The light
falls upon his glasses
and also
into the baby’s dark pupils
That man
who once hurried through life
suddenly
slows down
He begins to understand
what it means to speak softly
what it means to wake at midnight
what it means
to place all of one’s patience
into the hand
holding a milk bottle
The baby drinks quietly
occasionally waving a tiny hand
as if, unintentionally,
she has grasped
the fate of an entire family
and lit it once again
At this moment
time feels weightless
as though everything once lost
is slowly returning
through the faint rhythm
of her breathing

8. Dreamland
by Bei Mei Shi Ge
She lies with eyes closed,
closer than anyone
to the secrets of the world.
A little orange outfit —
like a cloud just touched down,
still warm from the journey here.
She says nothing,
yet knows everything.
A pair of hands
cups her gently,
as if to say:
“I’m here.”
Her lips press together, faintly —
as if hiding an answer,
or as if someone
in her dream
just made her smile.
Sleep now.
The noise of the world
is not yet yours to carry.
Dream freely —
revisit those places
we have long forgotten,
and bring them back to us.

9. Gazing
by Bei Mei Shi Ge
She doesn’t yet know your name,
but she knows your scent —
like some ancient covenant
signed before she broke
through the darkness.
Your face is vast,
larger than anything
she has ever seen.
Two transparent things
perch on your nose —
she doesn’t know what they are,
but she likes them.
You bow your head,
and the whole sky
bows with you.
She wants to smile —
not because she understands,
but because something
is flowing toward her
from your eyes.
Warm.
Like the place she came from.
She curls her fingers tight.
She wants to hold
this moment
in her fist.
You don’t yet know
she has known you for a long time —
before language,
before names,
before the world.
You are her
first
landscape.

10. Reading
by Bei Mei Shi Ge
The sound of a turning page
is older
than any lullaby
She lies in her father’s arms
not knowing what the words mean
but knowing
that voice is safe
A tear still rests at the corner of her eye —
the surprise of having just arrived
in this world
not yet put away
Inside the book there is a forest
a river
a little bear
who cannot find its way home
She does not understand
yet she falls asleep
Understanding
is not
the most important thing
What matters is
a voice
that stays

11. Pink Little Face
by Bei Mei Shi Ge
A pink little face —
the last cloud before dawn,
not yet knowing how
to hold its own light.
Two eyes
like ink just dropped in water,
deep,
with no knowing how deep.
Someone’s palm
holds the weight of an entire world,
but she doesn’t know it at all.
A tear at the corner of her eye —
that is the rain from a past life,
not yet fully evaporated.
Tiny lips lightly pressed,
as if about to say something,
as if, too,
nothing needs to be said.
The world is so vast.
She simply gazed at it,
quietly,
once.
Then
gave all her pink
back to spring.

12. Xixi’s Inner Monologue
By Bei Mei Shi Ge
Xixi
doesn’t know
what they’re all so busy with.
Every time she opens her mouth
a cluster of faces appears
leaning in so close.
eyes wide and bright,
as if she’d done something remarkable.
All Xixi wants to say is
she’s a little hungry.
Or
she’s a little uncomfortable.
Mama’s hands are always warm.
When she holds Xixi,
her heart beats so loud—
hard to know what Mama is nervous about.
Xixi sleeps.
Mama doesn’t.
Xixi opens her eyes.
Mama is still there.
Aunt nanny moves back and forth
like a breeze that carries a scent.
Her arms are soft,
but Mama’s arms
have a smell Xixi can recognize.
Xixi hears them say:
tired.
milk.
what time is it.
These words she doesn’t understand,
but the sound of their voices
is light—
as if they’re afraid
of startling her awake.
Actually, Xixi has been awake all along.
She is only memorizing:
every face,
every pair of hands,
every sound.
Before she learns to say
thank you
she will store it all
with her eyes

13. Xixi: Why Don’t They Sleep
By Bei Mei Shi Ge
I have just arrived from a faraway place
where everything was light, everything was warm
I have not yet learned the rules of this world
Every time I open my eyes
they gather close
their eyes bright, the corners of their mouths curved
saying things I cannot understand
I want to tell them —
sleep
only in sleep can you return to that place
where the clouds I just left still drift
But they don’t sleep
they move back and forth carrying something warm
holding a piece of light in their hands
their footsteps soft, as if afraid to wake someone
Afraid to wake me?
But I am already awake
There is one person
who always sits beside me
something flickering in her eyes
not drowsiness
but something I have no name for yet
I watched her for a long time
then slowly closed my eyes
Perhaps
they sleep in another kind of place
a place I do not yet know —
a waking dream

14. Sleeping Beauty
by Bei Mei Shi Ge
A pink swaddle
wraps her into
a spring not yet germinated
Her lips, slightly parted
as if murmuring a word
only dreams can understand
She does not know
that a pair of eyes
is quietly surrendering
to the sight of her sleeping face
Her fine hair still carries
the last breath of the womb
her forehead, a lamp
just lit
She sleeps so deeply
like a secret
tucked in the softest place
beneath the world’s noise
And I stand here
not daring to say a word
afraid that one syllable
might wake her
into someone ordinary

By Bei Mei Shi Ge
Your eyes
are like dawn breaking open
luminous with morning dew
for the first time
beholding this world
You cannot yet speak
but hold all your questions
hidden in those bright black pupils
like a newly born star
gazing calmly
upon the vast human world
You look at me
with such focus
as though I were
the first light
you recognized in this life
In your pure gaze
there is no yesterday
no tomorrow
only this moment—
life's first wonder
and trust without reservation
In that moment
I suddenly understood
that time does not only flow forward
it also folds back
and in a baby's eyes
begins to grow again
You blinked softly
and the leaves beyond the window
gleamed for a breath
the whole world
grew young once more

16. Your Little Mouth
By Bei Mei Shi Ge
Your little mouth
is like a tiny opening
where spring begins to unfold,
a ray of light
slowly flowing out from there.
You cannot speak yet,
yet you have already hidden joy
inside every smile.
In your dreams,
the corners of your mouth gently rise,
like a flower not yet in bloom,
blossoming quietly
within your own little dream.
I see
a new life has just arrived in this world,
and already brought with it
tenderness and forgiveness.
And your little mouth
has said nothing at all,
yet it seems to tell us:
Every beautiful beginning
once came into this world
just like this—
softly, gently.

17. Your Small Hands
By Bei Mei Shi Ge
Your small hands
so small
yet they hold
a spring not yet unfolded
Five fingers slightly curled
like newborn leaves
in the light
learning to stand
You do not yet know how to embrace
but the world has already learned
to bend down
In sleep
your palm lifts gently
touching starlight
and also the place you came from
Something wordless happens
between you and the world
Your empty hands
quiet everything
Those who once held tight
begin to loosen their grip
It turns out love
does not need to be grasped
only allowed
to exist
in a small pair of hands
Before the world
learns tenderness
you have already arrived

18. Your Little Feet
By Bei Mei Shi Ge
Your little feet
curled in swaddling cloth
like two newborn leaf buds
you have not yet walked a single road
and yet
you have already changed the direction of light
carrying the warmth of morning
your toes gently spread
as if trying to hold something
yet nothing needs to be held
outside the window, the wind
passes through treetops
passes through June
passes through the long human world
and you sleep
hiding all distant places
inside these little feet
I lower my head
and gently touch them
as if I have touched
the softest spring of my life

19. Your Little Ears
by Bei Mei Shi Ge
Your little ears
like two shallow seashells
rest in the soft light of June
Mother’s voice
passes by the cradle
Father’s lowered words
pass through the night
Wind moves the curtains
tree shadows sway gently
a bird lands on a branch
then flies toward the faraway
You are asleep
your eyelashes tremble slightly
as if countless faint sounds
are slowly arriving
along time itself
And your little ears
quietly keep all of it
like two seashells just opened
holding the earliest tide of the world

20. Your Little Nose
By Bei Mei Shi Ge
Your little nose,
like a slender crescent moon,
rests in the soft light of June.
In your sleep,
the scent of milk passes by,
the whisper of the wind passes by,
your mother’s gentle humming passes by.
You breathe so quietly,
gathering all the tenderness of the world,
little by little,
into your tiny body.
Your delicate nostrils
flutter ever so slightly,
like two newly opened petals,
guarding
an infant’s very first dream.
The world is vast,
and you are so small—
so small that you are
nothing more than
a single breath in,
a single breath out.
Yet you make everyone who loves you
hold their breath,
listening in silence
to life’s very first echo.

21. First Light in Water
by Bei Mei Shi Ge
The sound of water rises softly
a small body
between two palms
quietly receiving
the tender touch of the human world
You open your eyes
watching the flowing light of water
as if reading
a book without words
You do not know
that these hands are washing away
more than dust upon the skin
but also the earliest chill
of an unfamiliar world
and the noise that does not belong to you
Bubbles fall upon your hair
like a small white cloud
resting in the morning
Your gaze is so bright
as if you have already heard
the wind of the future
calling gently from afar
And in this moment
you are only
a very small child
Surrounded by warm water
illuminated by light
carefully placed
by a pair of hands
at the center of love

22. Gazing Out the Window
By Bei Mei Shi Ge
The quiet window
is like a shell gently opened by morning light
the city gathered into a single transparent breath
He stands turned slightly aside
his outline drawn in backlight
like an unfinished line of speech
resting between fatherhood and the faraway
The child in his arms
is light, almost weightless
small feet hanging down
like stars not yet fallen into the world
He is gazing
not merely at the scenery
but at a future still forming itself
breathing faintly in his arms
The curtain stirs
light flows in slowly
without words, without sound
Outside the window unfolds
bridges, trees, and distant buildings
like a page of fate gently turned
The coffee machine is silent
the pothos hangs downward
time lowers its voice
Inside the room, no sound
and yet the act of “gazing” continues to happen

23. In a Dream
by Bei Mei Shi Ge
You are asleep
like a thin crescent moon
quietly resting
in June’s light
eyelashes gently close
leaving the noisy world
outside the dream
sunlight
passes your forehead
passes the tip of your nose
and on the faintly lifted corner of your lips
it lingers for a moment
as if some quiet happiness
is quietly moving through the dream
you
breathe
in stillness
between each inhale and exhale
time slows down
wind slows down
even the shifting light by the window
softens its steps
and we stand nearby
without a word
as if all the tenderness of the world
at this moment
has gathered
inside your dream

24. For Xixi’s Full Moon
By Bei Mei Shi Ge
The full moon casts its silver glow,
As Xixi’s smile begins to grow.
Soft breezes cradle newborn dreams,
While gentle words embrace the endless night.
May your eyes forever sparkle bright,
May sunshine dwell within your heart.
May every season greet you with warmth,
And may peace, joy, and love be yours always.

25. The First Time I Held You
By Bei Mei Shi Ge
Today,
for the very first time,
I lifted you gently
into my arms.
The world
suddenly grew quiet.
Even my breathing
became softer.
You were so small—
as small as a drop of light
that had just settled
on a morning branch.
Your tiny hands
lightly held the air,
as though they were holding
a springtime
not yet given a name.
Your eyelashes
rested upon sleeping eyes.
Now and then
they trembled ever so slightly,
as if a breeze
had passed through
a place
where flowers had yet to bloom.
I looked down at you.
The weight in my hands
was so slight,
yet somehow
it lifted
an entire life.
Only at that moment
did I understand:
Time
does not simply
move forward.
Sometimes
it quietly turns around,
placing one person’s yesterday
into another person’s tomorrow.
Outside the window,
the leaves of July
swayed gently.
Sunlight slipped
through the branches,
falling in little squares
across your face,
as though time itself
were learning
how to grow up
slowly.
And I
simply held you,
silently.
Not a single word
was spoken.
Then I realized:
Some kinds of love
need no voice.
The first time I held you,
I was not holding
only a child,
but a beam of light
newly arrived
in this world—
the very light
that,
through all the years to come,
would continue
to shine upon me.
