洱海观鱼（古风，节选）

楼立剑

万顷烟波一叶舟，

苍山倒映縠纹柔。

船夫搁桨湖风定，

七八鸬鹚立船头。

船夫挥手鸬鹚起，

玄翅贴水喙如钩。

倏尔有鸟噙鱼出，

欲吞还吐几番休。

细绳扼颈何以饱，

三寸青鲤难下喉。

可怜鱼命几轮回，

利嘴脱身渔夫追。

On misty waves a small boat goes its way;

Green hills are mirrored where soft ripples sway.

The boatman's oars cease, the lake wind still now;

Fish hawks seven or eight perch on the bow.

At the fisher's wave, the birds spring to flight—

Beaks like hooks, black wings skim the water bright.

A bird leaps out with fish in beak held tight —

It tries to swallow, but fails with its might.

With its neck bound tight, how can it be fed?

A three-inch carp sticks in its throat instead.

Poor fish, you circle through death 'n' life in vain —

Free from sharp beak, then chased by man again.

Upon vast misty waves a tiny boat does ride;

Green hills reflect where gentle ripples glide.

The boatman stops his oar; the lake wind dies;

Several cormorants upon the bow rise.

The boatman waves; the cormorants take flight,

Dark wings skim waves — their beaks like hooks in the light.

At once a bird darts out with fish held tight;

It tries to gulp, then spits, then halts outright.

The thin string chokes its neck — how can it sate?

A three-inch carp won't go down; th' bird must wait.

O the poor fish's life — a cyclical race,

From beak it breaks; the fisherman gives chase.

Note: In traditional fish hawk (or cormorant, or sea eagle) fishing, a thin rope tied around the bird's neck prevents it from swallowing large fish, which it holds in its mouth for the fisherman to take.
