On Presenting Linhai Tangerines to a Friend
By ZENG Xiaoyun
Tr. LI Xiaoli
No seed, no empty heart it bears;
Rind thin, not thin in thy deep care.
Sweet as deep seas its truth declares;
Peel gently, gently, soft and fair.
Note: Linhai, located in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province, is renowned for its high-quality citrus fruit. Its tangerines, which are seedless, thin-skinned, and exceptionally sweet, have been prized as a tribute fruit since ancient times.
