Bugles Resound Again in My Dreams
Lyricists: Xie Shengjie, Zhou Ganbo
Verse 1
At eighteen, I donned the military uniform,
Head held high, valiant and spirited.
Standing straight as poplars in formation ranks,
The company commander’s orders made my blood burn hot.
Verse 2
Now I’ve taken off the armband on my shoulder,
Leading an ordinary civilian life at home.
Yet in dreams, the bugle still rings loud and clear;
Through ups and downs of years, my soldier’s heart never fades.
Chorus 1
Though the military uniform is laid aside, fighting spirit still abides,
Devotion to the nation dwells deep inside my chest.
Wind and frost never alter a soldier’s bearing,
At the motherland’s call, I march with firm strides.
Chorus 2
Once more I hear the resonant bugle in dreams,
Storms can never wear down my iron backbone.
The mission entrusted by the motherland stays in my heart,
I vow to guard every inch of rivers and mountains in peace.
Bridge
Time can never cool my burning passion,
Original aspiration kept firm to defend our land.
True character endures, loyal heart steadfast as steel,
My soldier’s soul shines forever bright.
Outro
However long the years roll on, my military spirit stays unforgotten;
Being addressed as a veteran means lifelong glory.
Loyalty is engraved deep in my chest,
Our land and rivers abide in eternal peace.
