Mind not for miles the barring clouds on high;

Like wild geese we speed on a north-south flight;
The moon o'er Heavenly Mountains shines bright.
Who sings the farewell song of Peach Bloom Pond?

A Farewell Ode for Xinjiang Poetry Society

No realm outshines the wine’s enchanted might,
Each gifted bard displays his verse style keen.
Though clouds and long roads block our western sight,
We clasp full cups and drink, our hearts serene.
We come and depart as wild geese do, just so.
The Tianshan moon still glows with steadfast grace.
Who chants of the Peach Blossom Pool’s warm flow?
Poetic tides surge o'er this parting place!
Notes:
1. for miles the barring clouds on high: alluding to YUE Fei's "The River's All Red": "Myriad miles ahead, moon and clouds on high." (Tr. ZHAO Yanchun) It evokes a long journey blocked by clouds.
2. The moon o'er Heavenly Mountains shines bright: a Xinjiang landmark, symbolizing the lasting memory of this land in the poet's heart.
3. the farewell song of Peach Bloom Pond: alluding to LI Bai's "To WANG Lun": "A thousand feet deep is the Peach Bloom Pond, // But not deeper than my friend's love so fond." (Tr. ZHAO Yanchun) It suggests deep friendship and the sentiments of parting.

Biosketch of the Translator
LYU Wenpeng, a native of Tianshui, Gansu Province; Associate Professor of English and MA Supervisor at Northwest Normal University, Director of Chinese Culture Translation and International Promotion Committee, of Chinese Classics Bilinguals' Association, and of Gansu Provincial Translators' Association. She specializes in applied linguistics and studies of translator behavior and of translation of Chinese classics.

舒恩江，浙江新昌人。翻译专业资格考试英语二级，高中英语高级教师，“开心挑战中译英”微信群群主，个人微信公众号“天姥英语桥”。本人喜欢旅游、摄影、英语教学、以译会友。
Translator's Profile
Shu Enjiang, a native of Xinchang County, Zhejiang Province, holds a CATTI Level 2 Certificate in English Translation and is a Senior High School English Teacher. He founded the WeChat group "Joyful Challenge: Chinese-to-English Translation" and runs the personal WeChat official account "Tianmu English Bridge".
