从屏幕上

一直走来
Hometown on the Screen

Moonlight, sparsely scattered.
Far away—the far of far away,
mountains—mountains
behind mountains,
the sea—the sea beyond the sea.
Ah, hometown, my hometown,
the moon on the old well’s rim
is always so clear, so bright,
always leaving me so wistful.
Across the street,
Old Bian dumplings in a Chinese restaurant
have long since, amid the thin rustle of crickets,
shrunk into a single disc.
When the screen lights up—
rich, gleaming black earth,
rows of wooden posts;
that little patch of ours,
wood-ear mushrooms, one after another.
Sorghum, corn, soybeans
all climb the fences and courtyard walls
and walk out of the screen
toward me.
They come along the winding path,
coming, enlarging,
enlarging again—
coming on and on.
