「步出夏门行」是汉末枭雄曹操用乐府旧题创作的组诗。该诗创作作于建安十二年（公元207年）正是曹操北征乌桓凯旋归来的时候。「步出夏门行」一诗共分五个部分。
开头乃序曲「艳」。
正文分四章。
第一章「观沧海」该文描绘大海壮丽景象以表达曹操大志大勇，以景托志，胸怀天下之雄心大志。
第二章「冬十月」描写胜利归途所见之各种在冬天看到的风景和事物。
第三章「土不同」叙说黄河以北寒冬天情景及民风特色。
第四章「龟虽寿」则慷慨激昂抒发曹操本人老当益壮，积极进取之豪迈精神。是该诗意境最开阔，气势最雄伟的部分。
其白话文大意如下；
神龟虽然长寿，但终究会死，螣蛇虽然能够腾云驾雾，但最后也会化为土灰。
老马虽然伏在马槽旁，但是牠的雄心壮志却是驰骋千里。
烈士者如本人，即便到了晚年，也是奋发向上，壮志是永不止息的。
人寿命的长短，不全然由上天决定。如果好好调养身心，就可以延年益寿。
我真是幸运极了，就用歌唱咏诗来表达自己的志趣吧。
我有感而发，又书又画老当益壮，自娱娱人，敬请欣赏。
盈缩之期，不但在天；
养怡之福，可得永年。
幸甚至哉，歌以咏志。

The length of human life does not totally depend upon the heaven.If one takes good care of himself , he still can enjoy a long and happy life.Fortunately and luckily,I am just such a man.Therefore, I would like to sing a song to express my idea.（Despite the turtle has longevity ·Cao Cao of Wei Jin Dynasty)

Despite the mutant turtle has longevity,it will die in the end . Despite the flying snake can ride the fog,it eventually will become ashes.
Although the old horse is lying down in the stable,it still has an ambition in the far-away battlefield .Although the warrior is old ,his brave heart has never been discouraged .
