Qixi Festival in Early Autumn
By Ying_Deng Klein
Tr. Wei Hongxia
The most romantic thing in the world
Is not that of Romeo and Juliet
But what happens on Qixi Festival.
If you love, let love fill every crevice of your heart.
Why hesitate?
On Qixi Festival in early Autumn,
If sunlight spills down,
Embrace it with your open arms;
If a breeze brushes past,
Gently close your eyes;
Just as flowers bloom and wither,
You cherish their beauty.
When tides rise and recede,
You drift as you please.
How natural this festival in early Autumn is!
No matter how terrified you are
Or what wild ideas you dream up,
One strike—and overwhelming divine power
Leaves you spellbound.
However, do you know how to cherish it?
The heart cleansed by love
Will cultivate beauty
That never fades.
When Cupid steals a loving glance from your lover,
It reveals nothing but
The complete you.
On this day in early Autumn,
If you love, just love.
The distance into this earthly world
Is only a fleeting thought.

Qixi Festival in Early Autumn
By Ying_Deng Klein
Top romance in the world
isn't about Romeo and Juliet
But Qixi Festival in early autumn
Love fills the crevices of heart
Why do you hesitate
Qixi Festival in early autumn
scatters like the sunlight
You spread your arms wide
If a breeze passes by
You slightly close your eyes
Just like flowers bloom and fall
You appreciate their beauty
When tides rise and fall
You just drift at will so naturally
Qixi Festival in early autumn
Even if you're terrified
Or think of something bizarre
one strike, The vast divine power
immediately enchants you
But do you know how to cherish
in a heart washed by love
We will cultivate a landscape
so charming that it'll never fade
Cupid steals my sweetie's glances
only to thoroughly reveal
a complete you
Qixi Festival in early autumn
love, Just fall in love
the distance to the mortal world
is but a single thought

Qixi in Early Autumn
By Deng Ying
Translated by Xu Chunman
The most romantic thing on earth
Is not the tale of Romeo and Juliet,
But Qixi in early autumn,
When love seeps into every corner of the heart—
Why, then, hesitate?
On Qixi in early autumn,
When sunlight pours down,
Spread wide your arms;
When a soft breeze sweeps by,
Half-close your eyes.
Just as flowers bloom and fade,
Behold their grace.
When tides ebb and flow,
Drift free, unconfined.
How natural it is, this Qixi in early autumn—
Even if dread grips you,
Or thoughts wander strange and wild,
One touch of overwhelming grace
Stirs the soul to rapture.
Yet do you truly know how to cherish it?
A heart washed pure by love
Shall nurture a landscape
Of endless, unfading splendor.
When Cupid catches your beloved's tender gaze,
It reveals nothing but
The whole, unbroken you.
On this Qixi in early autumn,
Love—just love without restraint.
The distance to plunge into mortal dust
Is but a single fleeting thought.

The Seventh Night’s Incipient Autumn
By Ying_Deng Klein
A free translation by Chen Zihong
Of all the world's romantic things
Nothing compares to Romeo and Juliet
Early autumn's Seventh night—
When love seeps through every crack in the heart
Why hesitate?
On this August evening you stand
Like sunlight spilling
You open both arms wide
Let a sudden breeze brush your face
Close one eye slightly
And watch blossoms rise
then fall in the same instant
The tide turns to its own sea-change pulse
Your soul drifts where it pleases
Even if terror clutches your heart
Or longing stretches beyond reach
One touch from Love’s arrow
Bearing hand is enough to intoxicate
The world, to blur every horizon into a single breath.
So love—once given—should simply be taken as it comes
The heart scoured by sacred fire
Will bloom not one petal
But acres of undying light
Cupid may steal half your lover’s gaze
Still you behold the whole world
Yourself complete in it
Shallow autumn, Seventh Night
Just let love happen already
To step back into ordinary time
Is merely a thought away.

Chishi Festival in Early Autumn
By Ying Deng Kein
Translated by Chen Yong
What is the most romantic in the world is not the affairs between Romeo and Juliet, but the Chishi Festival—when love fills every crevice of the heart; why hesitate? During this Chishi Festival, like sunlight falling upon you, you spread your arms wide; like a gentle breeze brushing past, your eyes softly close—just as you admire the beauty of flowers blooming and falling.
As the tide rises and falls, you drift freely, embodying pure nature; even on the Chishi Festival in early autumn—whether you're trembling with fear or longing with strange intensity—your sudden, powerful strike instantly captivates the heart and soul. But do you truly know how to cherish it?
A heart cleansed by love will cultivate a landscape of eternal beauty and charm. Cupid steals the glance of his beloved, yet only fully reveals the complete you. On the Chishi in early autumn, just love. The distance to immerse oneself in the mundane world is but a single thought away.
Translator’s note:
Chishi, which is actually spelt as Qixi in Chinese phonetic spelling, derived from the folk legend of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl meeting on the Magpie Bridge. It is a traditional festival celebrated on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month. It is also known as the Qiqiao (Chichiao) Festival or the Daughters' Festival and is celebrated as the Valentine's Day of China.
