北国风光，

The landscape of the North:

千里冰封，

A thousand leagues locked in ice,

万里雪飘。

Ten thousand leagues 

of swirling snow.

望长城内外，

Beyond the Great Wall—

Only an endless,

惟余莽莽；

boundless expanse;

大河上下，

Across the great rivers—

顿失滔滔。

The surging currents 

suddenly stilled.

山舞银蛇，

Mountains 

dance like silver snakes,

原驰蜡象，

Highlands gallop like 

waxen elephants,

欲与天公试比高。

Seeking to vie in height 

with the very heavens.

须晴日，

Wait for a clear, 

sunny day—

看红装素裹，

Behold the scene, 

adorned in red and white,

分外妖娆。

Strikingly enchanting.

江山如此多娇，

Such is the beauty of our land,

引无数英雄竞折腰。

Compelling countless heroes 

to bow in admiration.

惜秦皇汉武，

略输文采；

Lacked a certain literary grace;

唐宗宋祖，

The founders of the Tang and 

Song dynasties

稍逊风骚。

Were somewhat wanting 

in poetic flair.

一代天骄，

in poetic flair.

成吉思汗，

Genghis Khan,

只识弯弓射大雕。

the "Heaven-sent Pride" of his era,

俱往矣，

All have faded into the past—

数风流人物，

For true, magnificent figures,

还看今朝。

Look to the present day.
