Oriental Charm Blooms in Vienna Professor Li Zhaoshun Features in the UN‑hosted Digital Art Exhibition of Renowned Contemporary Chinese Artists

Recently, The Oriental World — Grand UN Digital Art Exhibition of Renowned Contemporary Chinese Artists was grandly held at the Strauss Palace in Vienna, Austria. Taking oriental art as a bond, the exhibition builds a bridge for Sino‑foreign cultural dialogue. It brings together fine works by numerous distinguished contemporary Chinese artists. Through large‑screen rolling display, it presents the unique spiritual charm and innovative outlook of contemporary Chinese art to international audiences. Professor Li Zhaoshun was invited to participate in the exhibition, with his representative works showcased at this international art event.

Li Zhaoshun is a research expert on right‑brain science and art at Tsinghua University, doctoral supervisor, national first‑class fine‑arts artist and the founder of Chinese Wave Painting. He has long explored the innovative integration of art and brain science, breaking the boundaries of traditional painting and infusing the concepts of natural science into brushwork and colors. Mr. Wu Guanzhong once commented: “Wang Wei was the originator of literati painting, and Zhaoshun is the pioneer of natural‑science‑inspired painting.”

His Lotus Pond series breaks free from the established conventions of traditional flower‑and‑bird painting. Rich cerulean blue and vivid rose‑red interweave and collide. Upright lotus stems stand tall amid scattered blooming flowers. Amid splashing, flowing color blocks unfolds the inexhaustible vitality of the lotus pond. Color is no longer merely a tool for depicting objects, but a medium that stirs the soul. Viewers experience the vitality of nature and visual resonance amid these gorgeous, multihued compositions.

Works of the Heaven‑Earth‑Mountains‑Rivers series boast a more expansive artistic conception. Skylight and flowing clouds spread over the land, with stretches of waters where fishes and birds wander at ease. With free and agile brushwork, the painter integrates oriental free‑spirit painting sentiments and modern artistic language, condensing myriad natural scenes onto canvas. Rooted in the unique thinking of brain‑science‑oriented art, these paintings awaken human perception through light, shadow and colours. At the intersection of science and art, they interpret the poetic philosophy of harmony between human beings and nature.

As innovative oriental artworks are unveiled at the Vienna Palace, artistic languages across mountains and oceans resonate with one another. Professor Li Zhaoshun takes his works as a medium to narrate the exploration and reflection of contemporary Chinese artists on the international stage. He brings the art with scientific core and oriental poetic charm to the world and promotes cultural exchanges and mutual‑learning between China and foreign countries.
