On September 3, Mei County People’s Hospital officially formed a Reproductive Medicine Specialty Alliance with the Department of Reproductive Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University. A series of activities including symposium exchanges, public‑benefit free clinics and academic lectures were successfully held. This initiative marks a key practice for Mei County People’s Hospital to implement the tiered medical care policy and improve service capacity by drawing on high‑quality provincial‑level resources. It also delivers a tangible “health package” for local patients suffering from infertility and those in need of reproductive‑health services.
In the morning, the symposium for the specialty alliance was convened. Ran Xuebing, President of Mei County People’s Hospital, noted that the hospital has long received collaborative support from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, laying a solid foundation for bilateral cooperation. The newly‑established alliance targets pressing difficulties in people’s medical access and strives to shore up deficiencies in county‑level reproductive‑medicine services. Through close collaboration, high‑quality medical resources will be effectively extended to grassroots settings and put into good use, reducing patients’ financial and time costs of travelling back and forth to the provincial capital.
Wang Haiyan, Director of the Department of Reproductive Medicine at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, introduced that the department has been engaged in reproductive medicine for decades and is where Northwest China’s first test‑tube baby was delivered, boasting solid technical strengths. She stated that anchored on the specialty alliance, the department will fully support the hospital’s discipline development and local talent training via regular specialist outpatient consultations, clinical tutoring, remote consultations and two‑way referrals, so that advanced medical technologies can take root at the grassroots level. During the symposium, the two sides reached consensus on details such as discipline co‑construction, technical assistance and green‑channel referrals, laying a foundation for sustained future cooperation.
Following the symposium, the expert team delivered a public‑benefit free clinic at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Outpatient Department of Mei County People’s Hospital. Local residents arrived early and formed long queues. Specialists conducted patient consultations, reviewed medical records, and offered personalized advice on infertility, recurrent miscarriage, menstrual disorders, pre‑pregnancy care and prenatal and postnatal care. One female consultant commented emotionally, “In the past, getting appointments in Xi’an was difficult and costly. Now provincial experts are right here in our county — this is truly a great help.” The free clinic enabled local people to receive face‑to‑face services from provincial specialists at their doorstep and was well‑received by the public.
In the afternoon, a special academic lecture on reproductive medicine was organized. Centering on standardized diagnosis and treatment of infertility, new advances in assisted reproductive technology, and ovarian function assessment, specialists gave in‑depth explanations combined with grassroots clinical cases. Participants remarked that the lectures were practical, pertinent and illuminating, offering valuable guidance for standardizing routine clinical practice and enhancing professional competence.
The establishment of this specialty alliance represents a solid measure for Mei County People’s Hospital to further develop the medical consortium and shift reproductive‑health services to earlier intervention. Moving forward, capitalizing on this cooperative opportunity and leveraging the technical strengths of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, Mei County People’s Hospital will gradually launch featured services including standardized infertility screening, pre‑pregnancy health guidance, and diagnosis and treatment of reproductive‑endocrine disorders. Meanwhile, the hospital will keep the green referral channel unobstructed to facilitate seamless referral for patients requiring assisted reproductive technology. It is believed that joint efforts from both parties will help more families realize their dreams of having children and provide county residents with higher‑quality, more efficient and accessible whole‑life‑cycle health services.
